Overview

Turning Paid Traffic Into More Qualified Inquiries

A custom kitchen and cabinet remodeling company operating across several Canadian and U.S. markets needed a more efficient way to generate qualified leads. Kitchen remodeling is a high-consideration purchase. Homeowners often spend weeks researching companies, comparing portfolios, reviewing offers, and considering financing before they are ready to book a consultation. The biggest opportunity was not simply increasing budget or changing bids. The conversion path, messaging, and campaign structure all needed improvement.

The goal was to reduce cost per lead, increase inquiry volume, and create a clearer path from paid click to booked consultation.

The Challenge

A Crowded Market and a Weak Conversion Path

The business was competing in a crowded market where many advertisers were promoting similar services and offers. Traffic was coming in, but too much of it was being lost before becoming a lead.

Two issues stood out:

  • Paid traffic was landing on a generic page that relied heavily on phone calls, creating friction for homeowners who were interested but not yet ready to call.
  • The advertising focused on broad “custom kitchen” messaging that looked similar to competitors and gave prospects little reason to respond.

The issue was bigger than ad performance alone. The entire journey from click to inquiry needed improvement.

My Approach

Fixing the Funnel Before Scaling the Spend

Instead of increasing budget or optimizing bids in isolation, the strategy was focused on the full conversion path: traffic quality, landing experience, messaging, measurement, and offer.

Improve the Conversion Experience

The landing page was focused more on showcasing the business than generating leads, which created friction for homeowners who were interested but not ready to call.
Recommended adding a clear inquiry form and simplifying the conversion path so paid traffic had an easier way to take the next step.
After the landing page updates were implemented, lead volume increased while cost per lead declined.

Refine Google Ads Around Buyer Intent

Search campaigns were structured around different levels of intent, including core remodeling terms, high-intent renovation queries, brand protection, and controlled competitor targeting.
Search terms, negative keywords, and campaign structure were continuously refined to keep spend focused on homeowners most likely to become qualified leads.
Competitor searches ultimately contributed 18% of qualified Search leads, showing that comparison-stage traffic was an important part of the funnel.

Test Stronger Meta Offers

Meta Ads were used to reach homeowners considering a remodel who were not necessarily searching at that exact moment.
Tested different decision drivers, including promotional offers and financing, rather than relying on generic kitchen-remodeling messaging.
The financing angle reduced the perceived barrier of a high-ticket purchase and generated leads at a 27% lower CPL while maintaining similar lead quality.

Improve Measurement & Budget Allocation

Form conversions were tracked through Google Tag Manager and Google Ads, with performance checked against GA4 to create a clearer view of which campaigns were actually driving inquiries.
Budget was then adjusted based on performance and seasonality rather than kept flat throughout the year.
This made it possible to invest more aggressively during stronger demand periods while protecting efficiency when demand softened.

Key Takeaways

Better ads helped. A better funnel changed the economics.

For high-ticket services, paid media performs best when the full customer journey is working together.

In this project:
The landing page reduced friction.
Search captured high-intent demand.
Meta tested stronger offers and messaging.
Better tracking made optimization more precise.

The result was lower lead costs, higher lead volume, and more consultations from the same acquisition system.
